Thought Controled Prothesis

There really is something to the phrase "mind over matter." Just ask Dr. Todd Kuiken, researcher from Northwestern University, whose work gives hope to amputees.Thought-controlled prosthetic devices have been an exciting development in the effort to provide mobility to wounded veterans and other victims of limb loss, and Kuiken has been on the forefront of this effort since his undergraduate days. Great hope. Go here--http://www.cyberneticsnews.com/research/Put_Your_Mind_to_It_Researcher_to_Give_Presentation_on_Thought-Controlled_Prosthetic_Devices.asp

Invest In Your Integrity Bank.

“Talent is a gift; but character is a choice… In fact we create it every time we make choices - to cop out or dig out of a hard situation, to bend the truth or stand under the weight of it, to take the easy money or pay the price. Scientists Explore Consciousness

The scientists have made a significant step into the understanding of conscious perception, by showing how single neurons in the human brain reacted to perceived and nonperceived images. Go here for the rest of the story.Dr Quian Quiroga said the study had important implications. Potential applications of this discovery include the development of Neural Prosthetic devices to be used by paralysed patients or amputees. A patient with a lesion in the spinal cord (as with the late Christopher Reeves), can still think about reaching a cup of tea with his arm, but this order is not transmitted to the muscles. Go to--

William Blake

William Blake. Cool. Did you know? William James was raised in a highly intellectual household: his father Henry, Sr. was a Swedenborgian theologian, his sister Alice wrote lengthy, literary diaries, and his brother Henry, Jr. became a renowned novelist. William himself studied art and geology before recieving a professional medical degree from Harvard university, where he taught for thirty-five years. Despite an energetic constitution, James struggled throughout life with such severe bouts of hypochondria, melancholy, and depression that he regarded himself as persisting only by means of a deliberate effort of will. Upon his death, however, a friend expressed great respect for James's wisdom, integrity, and equanimity. From http://www.philosophypages.com/ph/

Beautiful Quote

'... yet I cannot but express my sorrow that the beauty of such landscapes are quickly passing away--the ravages of the axe are daily increasing--the most noble scenes are made desolate, and oftentimes with a wantonness and barbarism scarcely credible in a civilized nation. The wayside is becoming shadeless, desecrated by what is called improvement.' -- Essay On American Scenery Thomas Cole, 1835 http://www.terrain.org/arterrain/21/gallery.htm

The Coldest Place In The Universe----Cool!

Where's the coldest spot in the universe? Not on the moon, where the temperature plunges to a mere minus 378 Fahrenheit. Not even in deepest outer space, which has an estimated background temperature of about minus 455°F. As far as scientists can tell, the lowest temperatures ever attained were recently observed right here on earth. Chill Out and go here--- http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/12359501.html

Alaskan Clydesdale

Only in Alaska....... This guy raised an abandoned moose calf with his horses, and believe it or not, he has trained it for lumber removal and other hauling tasks. Given the 2,000 pounds of robust muscle, and the splayed, grippy hooves, he claims it is the best work animal he has. He says the secret to keeping the moose around is a sweet salt lick, although during the rut he disappears for a couple of weeks, but always comes home.... impressive! Thank you Patsy and Waylon.

Top Soil Disappearing

John Aeschliman shows a spot where rain has washed soil from a neighboring farmer's property onto the road. Aeschliman says his method of farming, in which plants are seeded directly into the remains of the previous crop without tilling, gives stability to the soil, enabling it to retain water and preserve the organic matter within it. While many worry about the potential consequences of atmospheric warming, a few experts are trying to call attention to another global crisis quietly taking place under our feet. The Labyrinth

A labyrinth is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. The Labyrinth represents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world. Labyrinths have long been used as meditation and prayer tools.A labyrinth is an archetype with which we can have a direct experience. We can walk it. It is a metaphor for life's journey. It is a symbol that creates a sacred space and place and takes us out of our ego to "That Which Is Within."Labyrinths and mazes have often been confused. When most people hear of a labyrinth they think of a maze. A labyrinth is not a maze. A maze is like a puzzle to be solved. It has twists, turns, and blind alleys. It is a left brain task that requires logical, sequential, analytical activity to find the correct path into the maze and out. This is a facinating web site. Olympic Games Beijing

Just in time for the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, the official grand opening of the Olympic Aquatic Centre took place this past Monday in celebration of its unique architecture and eco-friendly characteristics. The building, four years in the making, is nicknamed the “Water Cube” and is a rectangular-shaped steel design covered by a membrane of brightly lit blue bubbles. Not only are these stunning to look at, but they also serve an important purpose in reducing energy costs by 30%. The membrane is made out of a material called ETFE, (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene) which absorbs solar radiation and reduces thermal loss. Very similar, I suppose, to the way a solar cover works on a pool. For more click here---http://www.groovygreen.com/groove/?p=2595

Integrity

Integrity is the word we use to describe a state of wholeness (being in harmony with “who” we really are”) and refers to how our personal life system is set up and if it works effortlessly. For some it means keeping promises; being congruent in thoughts, words, and deed. Go to this web site and enjoy the insights.--http://www.powerfull-living.biz/blog/

Organic Garden Tips

1. Mulch your flower beds and trees with 3" of organic material - it conserves water, adds humus and nutrients, and discourages weeds. It gives your beds a nice, finished appearance.2. Mulch acid-loving plants with a thick layer of pine needles each fall. As the needles decompose, they will deposit their acid in the soil.3. The most important step in pest management is to maintain healthy soil. It produces healthy plants, which are better able to withstand disease and insect damage.4. Aphids? Spray infested stems, leaves, and buds with a very dilute soapy water, then clear water. It works even on the heaviest infestation.5. Compost improves soil structure, texture, and areation, and increases the soil's water holding capacity. It also promotes soil fertility and stimulates healthy root development.6. Look for natural and organic alternatives to chemical fertilizers, such as the use of compost. Our use of inorganic fertilizer is causing a toxic buildup of chemicals in our soil and drinking water.7. When buying plants for your landscape, select well-adapted plant types for your soil, temperature range, and sun or shade exposure. The Lion And The Lamb---uhhh---Pig

In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born premature ly and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth. The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in h e alth, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve. After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there wereno tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only orphans' that could be found quickly, were a litter of weanling pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger. Would they become cubs or pork c hops? Take a look...you won't believe your eyes!! Now, please tell me one more time... Why can't the rest of the world get along?
